I am fascinated by antique photos. They really bring you back to the way things used to be… they make those stories your grandparents told you real. When I went home for the burial services for my grandfather and to visit family, I grabbed a binder of photos of our family history to put them on cd to preserve them. Some of which need work to restore them. For anyone who hasn’t tried this, it’s a painstaking process to restore it without destroying the integrity of the photo. To see a real master, head over to Blog1923

Here is one of my grandfather (before)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_2ooxg6vndsI/R-lxl5sP5cI/AAAAAAAAAkw/hPHwCnMF5ZA/s720/GrandpaBefore.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5181797742221977026" />
Here is the after

Here is a family picture (from left) of my (in no way wicked) stepmother (Carol), Julie, Mary, grandmother (Jane), Aunt Sue, and father (Joe)

Yesterday I went hiking on part of the Appalachian Trail and then putzed around the Cold Spring/Becon riverfront area. I used my time to think, reflect, and pre-plan as the next few months are going to get crazy. I turned my cell phone off, left my iPod at home and even left my watch in the car…. try it sometime, it’s quite liberating.

I will see if I can find it again and post some information. What’s the etiquette on posting about information that someone else re-posted? Do I have to site both people or just the first person?

I, like a few of my other photography friends, have the joy of doing two jobs that I am passionate about. My “9-5″ job as a teacher gives me an indescribable amount of joy. Everyone at one point in their lives thinks about their legacy; what they leave behind for future generations. It’s an honor to say that at the end of a school year, a positive piece of me, no matter how small, is left behind in each one of my students. I would hope it’s my passion for the Spanish culture, but I’m sure that’s not even on their radar at their age.

I have gotten to this point in my life because of the support and guidance of family and friends. During the time that I was student teaching, I was living with my grandparents who lived directly between the two places I was student teaching. I would come home from student teaching and start grading papers, making elaborate lesson plans and all the other things that needed to get done. From 5 p.m. until 11 or 12, my life was work. The next morning I would be up by 4, again grading papers and preparing for the day. My grandparents would prepare all of my meals for me, give me spending money for gas and so much more. Honestly, there is no way I could not have done it without them.

So, here I sit at my desk waiting for school to start…. thankful for my grandparents!

It seems like my last post was a little confusing to some. Without getting into too many details, my grandfather has not yet passed but it is just a matter of time before he meets with the Lord and our family in heaven. I spent last Thursday night through Sunday at the nursing home sitting by his side with my father, grandmother and aunt. The four of us reminisced about all the things that made him great, but it was the time with my grandmother that meant the most to me. She told me stories about her life with my grandfather (something I appreciate MUCH more now that I am married). This weekend was very comforting and helped bring closure to our current situation.
